Treasury!

Just found out I'm in this cute treasury by the talented Beantown on Etsy, home of supercute animal clothing & accessories and a really photogenic Boston Terrier named Bean.

The treasury expires tomorrow though since I caught it late, so check it out while it's still there!

The Queen Mary

Took these a couple weeks ago on my trip to the queen mary. It was such a fun trip & I regretted my camera's inability to do low light, or I would have gotten a bunch of great shots of 1920's-dressed people enjoying the ship on Art Deco Day! But instead, I have blurry shots of people enjoying the ship on Art Deco day. Oh well! I'm saving for a DSLR :)

Llama Socks

Llama Socks, the sketch movie!
I want to redo him on paper with bigger socks, and turn it into a print eventually. In the meantime I have been sooo busy with a bunch of stuff that all I can do is the quick online sketch tool, but odosketch is really fun & addictive, I recommend trying it out! You can post any sketches here too, I'd love to see them.

Also: pirate bird. but he didn't come out as well, because I broke odosketch with it! It wouldn't let me finish his eye and eyepatch! It just wouldn't let me draw in that area, and I tried it on 2 different computers with a tablet and a mouse, but that's okay because I want to redo pirate bird as a sketch on paper too.

My boyfriend Brandon made this hilarious one: Evasive Maneuvers. Awesomeness.

It's been a little while since I've had time to post, and I've missed my readers! I've been creating a website for my Dad, creating an iphone app for my dad (I'll show you both of these when they're done!), creating another 2 websites for Brandon (really, I'm a factory!), planning a bridal shower (I am so excited about getting to design invites for this.), as well as my recent move to a total fixer-upper and my job! So yeah I've been a little on the insane side recently. I think Brandon has managed to absorb some percentage of all this stress from me, even. That's how contagious I am. But I'm slowly getting things done, and not taking on any new projects right now, so it will be manageable again soon and I can get back to this blog and creating things for no reason. Hee!

JoslinJewels

These caught my eye today-- I love the detail. JoslinJewels is this week's shop of the week at the EtsyTwitter team blog. My favorites are those paisley earrings, they're so original! All that wire-wrapping looks like it must take a lot of time and patience. And I love her color sense.

I'm moving!

apartment

apartment

apartment

I'm moving to Santa Monica next weekend -- I'll be just 3 miles from the beach! It's my dream. I bought my first condo. But before I move, I had to take some pictures of my apartment, which I'm seriously gonna miss too. But I won't miss the 105+ degree summer days in this valley! One day recently it got up to 113. So I'm looking forward to that nice ocean breeze and being able to bike along the water.

More house pics at my flickr-- just click any one of these pics to get there. Also, if any of you lovely readers have house pics up, feel free to post links to them in the comments! I love looking at beautiful home photos.

New Packaging!

I've spent some time fiddling with my packaging and this is what I've finally come up with :) It started with a haphazard everybody-gets-something-different kind of packaging, but I really wanted a cohesive brand and also, it took a lot of time to put together before I'd figured out what I was doing -- finding materials scattered across the house and scrounging! Now it's easy because I keep everything in one box and have bought some good packaging materials I can use every time. Inside that kraft folder is a 8.5x11 chipboard for safety and the print, in a cello bag to keep it all together.

I originally wanted to do that frame sticker on clear printable sticker paper, so that it would have that nice kraft background. But I since I had a bunch of white sticker paper lying around, I decided to use that up first.

Tell me what you think! Packaging is one of my favorite things. I'm definitely one of those people that tend to pay a little bit more in the grocery store just for the packaging alone. But it's okay! It's research! ;)

Lovely beadwork by inmyheadstudios

This week's etsy twitter team shop of the week, inmyheadstudios, is so lovely! I especially love the upcycled scrabble and domino pendants. What a great idea! :) Environmentally friendly and really well done. They also have a painterly quality and a sentimentality to them that I love, and of course I always love those ornate flocking patterns that she uses on a few of her pieces, like the ones pictured.

Great work inmyheadstudios!

Treasury!

Another treasury, whew! Those little paper crane garlands are popular lately. 3 sales and 2 treasuries this week! Exciting for someone like me, who decided to set up shop right in the middle of the recession. haha. :P

Another treasury :)

I'm in this fun & bright treasury by itsastitch! I love all the colors they chose for it.

Candy Sushi!

I just spent the last 20 minutes making these...

I haven't tried them yet because I'm going to give them to the boyfriend when he gets home, he is going to be really confused. But I'm sure they will be yummy! Swedish fish on top of mini powdered sugar donuts, with fruit roll-ups for the seaweed.

treasury!

I'm so excited to be in this super cute treasury by mysticwynd!

Click on the picture to see it-- but hurry cause it expires tomorrow. It's been a busy couple days (house-hunting for my first non-rental!) and I only got the chance to blog just now. :P

Also I've been working on some new prints, finally! You will get to see them on here very soon.

I went to the Museum of Jurassic technology and had a lot of fun just taking pictures of the exhibits there. I'd gone there before a few months back cameraless, and had regretted it! The displays are so interesting, dark, mysterious. Sometime I will have to buy a book where I can read the descriptions until I'm satisfied.

There's a free tea room on the top floor and it was nice to sit in front of the fan and sip orange pekoe.

Here's a few more, and many more at my flickr page if you click the photos.

Etsy Twitter Shop of the Week

For all the jewelry makers out there, I think you'll really appreciate RockisSupplies' etsy shop. She sells handcrafted metalwork findings & clasps, they look so professional but with such a unique look. They almost don't look handmade because they're so perfect! I love the idea of using another person's artwork to create another piece of artwork, if that makes sense. (In fact I will likely be telling my talented mom about this store for her jewelry endeavors as well!) I love the heart clasp pictured on the left. If only I had any talent with making jewelry whatsoever, I would definitely use this one! haha.

If you're interested you can also check out her blog here, or follow her on twitter here.

I found out about this shop from the etsy twitter team, which is just a really fun group and I recommend checking it out if you enjoy etsy & twitter.

I made the front page of etsy recently!

I'm all excited about it :) I didn't know about it when it happened and didn't even know I was in any treasuries or anything at the time. I just happened to notice on the craftcult heartomatic site that I'd gotten a lot of hearts at 1pm the day before... And as I was exploring the craftcult site I just stumbled upon their "featured" page. Is that new? I didn't even know about it, but it keeps track of old front page treasuries which is really cool. So here's some screenies from the craftcult page and the first pic links to the craftcult page where you take see the treasury bigger. Being on the front page is so exciting - it happened to me once before but at 3 in the morning! Hehe.

Origami Crane Garland

I finally got some time to work on a new project that I've had in mind for months now! :) I thought I would branch out and do something weird instead of painting... Although for sure I need to make some more time with that too.

Newspaper origami cranes, made from newspapers from the weekly newspaper where I work. They're fun to do and I especially enjoy folding them from our map page. I have one hanging alongside the curtains at the window by my desk but they could look pretty anywhere.

Mix & Match Cards

I just added a new thing to my etsy store where you can buy cards with your choice of designs on it, it's a pack of 10 cards and you can choose up to 10 designs. I thought it would be a fun mix-and-match type thing.

And also, I just ate a whole little carton of raspberries. Yummm!

San Diego Wild Animal Park

IMG_5890

I went to the Wild Animal Park last weekend for a friend's birthday! It was fun and I love that place. We got a year pass- seemed very cost effective to get a dual pass since it was $10 off and only a little bit more money than if you bought two single-day passes. Plus, you get to go to the SD Zoo with the pass as well which makes me happy.

Don't ask me why the Wild Animal Park has an enormous yellow balloon, but they do. This is also one of my favorite photos from the trip!

I love the Wild Animal Park, because I've always felt like that's how zoos should all be. The animals have so much room to live in, they have plains and they can socialize and interact with other species like in real life. Tiny cages in zoos make me so sad, but I love to see the animals.

IMG_5923

This guy was really asking to have his picture taken. Who am I to say no? He's very pretty.

IMG_5915

My camera has no zoom whatsoever (I'm about to get a super-awesome-mega-DSLR though!) so this is the best shot I could get of the lionesses sitting on the jeep. Aww.

I'm in a Treasury!

Created by fellow etsytwitter team member, MySassyGlass. Some cool finds for mother's day in there, I love all the deep reds and happy pinks (as always, I think I'm particularly color-obsessed in general)

I would love any support & clicks you can give it! Click the image to go to the treasury page. :) Being in a treasury is always so exciting.

EtsyTwitter Team's cute shop of the week :)

I really like this week's etsytwitter shop of the week! Bellflower Textiles (see her blog here and her etsy shop here) uses such cute bright colors and I especially love those oranges and blues together as in the pillow pictured here. And I would love to have one of those puppy coffee sleeves. And a real puppy. Those two things, and I will be a happy girl!

If you haven't heard of the etsy twitter team, its a really fun team for those who like and use both twitter and etsy, and we recently got our own flickr group too which is really fun to look through. There's tons of team treasuries every week too which is always really fun, so if you're interested you should check it out. :)

More web design

Since I'm on a posting-recent-website design kick, here's 2 more I did recently. This one is for my mom:
connierawlins.com site
I'm so happy she wanted to make a website, because she is soo talented. You can check out the site and her work here.

And this one is for my boyfriend:
brandonsachs.com site
It's not up yet, because he said he would do the coding for me (it's the boring part) and he hasn't gotten around to it yet. But it will be online at brandonsachs.com in the near future. The site's going to be for his game design stuff, which he's really good at, so I'll probably post about it when it goes live. Yay :) I'm glad he let me put leaves and stripes and stuff in, he kept being like "noo make it more techy" and I only sorta did that. Hehe.

I hope you enjoy these!

New Website Design: JDCFilms

Here's the most recent site I've been working on, you can check it out if you're interested at www.jdcfilms.com.

jdcfilms.com site

jdcfilms.com site

We went from dark and textural, to clean and minimalist, then back again with this site and I think it helped to explore all those options. It turned out wonderfully in the end, and I've gotten some great feedback and responses on it so far. It's been a fun project to work on. Especially because I love working with a little bit of grunge :). This post at Smashing Magazine has just about the best collection of textures in web design that I've seen, and I always end up going back to it for inspiration anytime I need it. That, and the really really amazing typography post of course. If you haven't been to smashing magazine and you're a creative type, check them out and especially their freebies section :)

My Top 25 Favorite Free Fonts

I've been wanting to compile this list for awhile, so here it finally is! I tried to get a wide range of sources in here so that if you like fonts as much as I do, you can spend time at every one of them. Some of these took a lot of digging for me to find, and some of them have been posted and reposted but were just too good for me to resist. And of course, more than a few are from Dafont because I couldn't help it, I could spend all day on that site. And a bunch of them are from foundries that occasionally release free fonts that are just as good as their pay fonts (I love when they do that!)

So, enjoy! And click the photo to go to the website where you can download the font.
